What does 925 mean in silver?

It is also called 925 sterling silver and is a sign that you are holding a piece of jewelry in your hand that is made of real silver. The 925 means that the necklace consists of 92.5% pure silver, while the other percentages are other metals. You have to, as silver is a soft material and would otherwise easily bend or get scratched.

It is therefore as clean as it gets.

Why are my silver necklaces turning dark?

It happens because of a completely natural process. Especially silver jewelry tends to take on a dark look over time. This happens because the silver reacts to oxygen. The chemical reaction is also called oxidation and actually means that small black spots appear on the jewellery. However, it can also happen when your silver necklaces come into contact with chemicals or sweat.

It's hard to avoid that happening. However, it happens more slowly if you regularly use the individual piece of jewelery and make sure to store it in a dark jewelery box. Then it does not come into contact with the oxygen in the air to the same extent.

However, it is very easy to polish away with a gentle polishing agent or by putting it in warm water with salt and baking soda. Then it looks like new afterwards.
