Dagmarkors – A traditional gift for christenings, confirmations and weddings

Baptisms, confirmations and weddings are some of the biggest events in life. These are events that deserve some gifts of a special nature. You can give that with a Daymark cross. Because not only is it a powerful symbol. It is also one timeless pendant, which can not only be used for special occasions, but which can also be passed on for generations.

Is there a family tradition of giving a Daymark Cross? Would you like to surprise the confirmation student who may not already have a Daymark Cross? It is a very beautiful and caring gift that we would very much like to be a part of.

We have therefore put together a selection of Daymark crosses in gold and silver, with and without the Lord's Prayer engraved. These are pendants from renowned Danish jewelery designers, which is why you can be sure of getting a piece of high quality jewellery.

What does the Daymark cross originate from?

Once upon a time there was a queen. Her name was Queen Dagmar. She came from Bohemia and was King Valdemar Sejr's admired queen. She died in the early 13th century. It was not until nearly 500 years later – in 1683 – that the cross was found in one of the royal graves in St. Bendt's church in Ringsted. It is submitted to the Royal Art Gallery and is assigned the story that it belonged to the popular Queen Dagmar.

A small twist on the story, however, is that it is actually more likely that the Dagmarkorset belonged to Valdemar Sejr's sister, Richiza. Both their graves were destroyed, which is why there is doubt as to which of the two women the cross belonged to.

The original cross is today in the National Museum. Here you can see the magnificent work with Christ on the cross on one side and the Virgin Mary, Christ and John the Baptist on the other.

Whether it belonged to Queen Dagmar or not, it is a beautiful story and a very beautiful cross, which to this day is still a popular tradition to give at baptism.

Why give a Daymark cross as a christening gift?

The Daymark Cross is today a national symbol. It represents a strong narrative about Denmark as a Christian society. Although we are less Christian today than we were in the past and when it was found, it still stands as a traditional symbol that means something to many.

The tradition started with King Frederik VII back in 1863, who gave Danish princess Aleksandra a copy of the cross as a wedding present. But it wasn't just a copy. For the court jeweler Diderichsen, who was responsible for the jewelry, placed a piece of silk from the tomb of Canute the Saint in the cavity of the jewelry as a relic.

It gave great publicity and gave rise to the spread and popularity of the Dagmarkorset as a group jewelry in the best part of the Danish citizenry. Copies of these were then produced in large style and given as gift for baptism, confirmation and weddings.

When you give a Daymark cross as a christening gift, you are passing on part of Danish history. We think that is a very beautiful thought.

Find a beautiful chain for the Dagmarkorset

Don't you just want to give the cross as a gift? Although we sell our selection of silver and gold Dagmarkors as pendants, you also have the option of combining it with a nice chain. Because of course we also have a selection of different types of chains, so you can give a whole piece of jewelery for the christening, confirmation or wedding.

The chain is as much a part of the piece of jewelry as it adds edge to the whole. If you need help choosing the right chain, we are happy to help. Because of course it has to be perfect and with the right expression when you give a gift as special as the Day Cross. Then we will be happy to send it together and wrapped, if you wish.

Daymark cross in gold or silver

There are many different suggestions for what a Daymark cross might look like. Here at the shop alone, we have a handful of different variants that you can choose from. But it's not just the design that varies. So does the material. We have therefore chosen to have both silver and gold Dagmarkors in our range, so that you can choose the precious metal that suits the recipient best based on your wish or preference.

If you choose a Dagmarkorsk in gold, you can be sure that it is the real thing. You can choose between 8kt and 14kt gold. In other words, it is a pendant and piece of jewelery that will last a lifetime if you or the recipient take good care of it. The quality is up to it. But because they are made of gold, it also means that they cost somewhat more than our variants in silver. Regardless of budget, you have the opportunity to choose the most suitable Dagmarkors.

A thoughtful and beautiful gift

A piece of jewelry is in itself very personal to give. But when it is wrapped as a Daymark cross, there is a special and extra great meaning in the gift. It has been chosen with extra care and consideration. It is beautiful.

When you give a Daymark Cross, you don't give just any piece of jewelry either. Because you give something that is meant to follow the person throughout their life. You are giving a piece of jewelry that will have sentimental value and may even be passed on to the next generation.

We are therefore also very helpful if you want advice and guidance on the right choice of cross. Because it is a great gift to give, which is why it is only natural that there are also great thoughts behind it. Whether it is for choosing the cross itself, a chain or the piece of jewelry as a whole, we are here to help you choose the best possible gift.

Although we are physically present in Holstebro, this does not prevent us from helping you in another part of the country - because we are also here online and by telephone.
